Live Independently Care Closet

ATTENTION: Usage of this program is reserved for Douglas County, Wisconsin residents only.

Care Closet items are provided free of charge. All items must be checked out in person at our office. A brief checkout form is required for all items and supplies. Items may be checked out for yourself or on someone else’s behalf. Please be prepared to provide the recipient’s name, date of birth, address, and phone number. Information collected is used for Care Closet purposes only. Items cannot be reserved or held. Please call ahead to check current availability. Personal care and incontinence supplies are limited to one package per person due to limited availability. Thank you for your understanding.

  • What is Senior Connections’ Live Independently Care Closet? Previously known as the Medical Equipment Loan Closet Our Live Independently Care Closet provides FREE medical equipment and supplies to Douglas County, Wisconsin residents who need extra support to remain safe and independent at home.


  • We understand that needs can arise unexpectedly. You may be recovering from an illness, injury, surgery, or hospital stay, experiencing changes in mobility, waiting for permanent equipment, or simply needing an item you cannot easily obtain right now. Our Care Closet is here to help bridge that gap when you need it most.


  • There is NO CHARGE to use Care Closet equipment, and items may generally be kept for as long as they are needed. You may check out an item for yourself or on behalf of another Douglas County resident.


  • Our equipment is donated by community members and cleaned, sanitized, and checked for safety and quality before being made available. Inventory changes frequently, so please call ahead to check current availability.


Depending on current availability, our Care Closet may offer:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Walkers and seated walkers
  • Canes and crutches
  • Commodes
  • Toilet seat risers
  • Shower chairs and benches
  • Bed rails and other safety rails
  • Unopened incontinence products
  • Unopened personal care supplies
  • Other mobility, medical, and home-safety equipment


Because inventory can change from day to day, and even hour to hour, we cannot guarantee that a particular item will be available.


  • Please call Senior Connections at (715) 394-3611 before stopping in to ask about current availability. Our staff can let you know whether we currently have the item you are looking for and provide additional information about picking it up.
  • When equipment is available, it must be signed out through Senior Connections. Equipment may be signed out by the person who will be using it or by someone assisting them (caregiver).
  • Our goal is to make the process as simple and accessible as possible while helping Douglas County residents get the equipment they need to remain safe, mobile, and independent.


Looking to Donate to Senior Connections?

  • Our Live Independently Care Closet is made possible largely through generous community donations. Donating usable medical, mobility, and safety equipment gives these items a second life while helping another Douglas County resident in need.
  • We gladly accept many new or gently used items that are clean, complete, in good condition, and working properly. We may also accept personal care and incontinence supplies that are new, unopened, and in their original packaging.


For health, safety, sanitation, storage, and liability reasons, we cannot accept:

  • Beds or mattresses
  • CPAP machines
  • Power wheelchairs or power chairs, nothing mechanical or hydraulic at all 
  • Opened personal care or incontinence supplies
  • Damaged, heavily worn, or unsanitary equipment
  • Incomplete items or equipment missing necessary parts
  • Items that cannot be safely cleaned, stored, or redistributed
